Garden Room Extension in Trinity, Edinburgh – a sleek addition to a Victorian villa

The owners of this Victorian villa in the Edinburgh Trinity Conservation area wanted a glazed garden room extension which increased the size of their living area and gave a better connection to the garden. The structure was kept back from the corners allowing the large sliding glass doors to open up at both sides. The roof profile was kept slim with the use of high performance vacuum insulation panels and finished with a green (sedum) roof, to improve the outlook from the bedroom window above.

A bespoke rooflight was installed at the junction between the main house and the extension, bringing light into the existing windows to the original house. Additional circular rooflights combine with both large and small circular recessed downlights, giving interest to the ceiling and providing beautiful shadows as the sun moves round during the day.
