A full refurbishment of a historic 18th-century farmhouse dramatically improved energy performance while respecting the home’s character. New windows and rooflights bring in natural light and open up views to the East Lothian coast.
The renovation of this 1780s stone farmhouse transformed into a warm, modern family home
This beautiful 1780s stone farmhouse underwent a full refurbishment and remodel to create a warm, modern family home. The exterior of the house was upgraded, with a full roof overhaul, stonework and chimney repairs and installation of timber framed double glazing. New windows and rooflights were fitted to open up views to the coast and improve natural light throughout the house.
Internally, structural repairs were carried out and the internal layout carefully altered to suit modern lifestyles. Thermal insulation was fitted to the roof, wall and floor and the house was completely reserviced, replacing an LPG tank with air source heat pumps and underfloor heating.
Fernandes Binns Architects also undertook the refurbishment of the annexe to create comfortable guest accommodation.
