The project involved specialist repairs to a 110m length of B-Listed Edinburgh tenement blocks. It included traditional repairs to chimneys, slate roofs, leadwork and windows…

These Listed Building Roof repairs involved external fabric repairs across 1,500m2 of roof on two adjacent tenement blocks in Edinburgh’s South side Conservation Area. Both blocks are 18th Century and Category B-Listed. The roof was not accessible before the works began and the pre-construction design work was done using high resolution drone photography and Lidar (laser) survey scanning.

The detailed photographs show replacement indented stonework. The ashlar stone around the windows has been finished with both droving and broaching. This is where the stone is hand dressed with a chisel in parallel lines. The droving consists of smaller, narrower lines, while the broaching creates wider, deeper channels. This creates a detailed textured affect to match the existing stonework on the building.
