This thoughtful Edinburgh home renovation improves flow and function across two levels.
Double extension to a house in Cramond to form a generous Family Room
The project involved altering and enlarging an existing 1980’s extension to create a generous kitchen/ living/ dining space at the heart of the house, opening directly onto the back garden and flooded with natural light. The new extension included a natural stone and zinc frontage and a study, utility room and replacement bathrooms were also created.
The kitchen is in the centre of a long ground floor plan, and could potentially have been gloomy in the areas furthest from windows. Sun tunnels and rooflights were therefore used to bring daylight deep into the plan. Bespoke storage was designed for a number of areas including the living room, entrance area, study and a window seat overlooking the new green roof. To reduce construction costs, existing kitchen cabinets were reused in the new layout, with matching doors and new worktops.
